Summary

The Lung Health Research Grants (LHRG) is a peer-reviewed competition that supports pulmonary research or development projects. It offers grants for research operating costs, including laboratory supplies, technicians, and some equipment for one year. Both Alberta Lung and BC Lung manage the LHRG application and peer review process. The PI must apply to the provincial Lung organization in the province where they hold their faculty appointment.

In 2024, Alberta Lung will focus on a targeted team call for lung transplant research. This focus aligns with organizational priorities - a planned lung transplant recovery facility and is intended to encourage collaboration among Alberta’s lung transplant research field. While they will fund a single grant in 2024, there will be a pathway to expansion and opportunities for further funding in the future. For those the 2024 grant does not support, there is still opportunity to provide input into provincial research priorities through collaboration with Alberta Lung.

Submission Process

The Full Application, plus approval in the Research Management System (RMS) using a Pre-Award/Application record, must be submitted to RSO by June 26, 2024 at 12:00 pm. Please be sure to select 'Submitted for approval' (under Save & Progress) in RMS in good time to allow for approvals from your Department Head and/or ADR prior to the RSO internal deadline. Consult your department and faculty for more information on their approval processes and timelines.

Do not submit to the agency until RSO's approval has been granted in RMS. Once this institutional approval has been obtained, the Principal Investigator will receive an automated message from RMS to their @ucalgary email address. You can then proceed with submitting your application by July 2, 2024 at 6:00 pm (MT).

This application also requires a signed signature page from the RSO prior to submission (this document will be available for download in RMS).
